HOLA News April 2009
Working meeting
At our meeting earlier this week, we decided to focus our attention on trying to prevent the RSS from being issued. Whilst there are actions being taken by the green spaces alliance individuals can still have an effect. We need to keep up the media attention and make sure the politicians don’t ignore the strength of feeling.
We also need more people to get involved, we need skills in publicity, legal, planning, general organisation. Please contact me if you can help, or come to our next meeting.
Next meeting
Date to be decided, please follow this link to show your available dates, we can then choose the date that suits the most. (Believe me, it is very easy!).

Shortwood Group Meeting 7th May
The Shortwood Group have organised an evening of talks and discussions which deserves our support. The evening will bring together conservation groups and politicians. It is at Kingswood Civic Centre 7th May 5:30 to 9:00. It looks an interesting evening and a good attendance will help publicity. Programme details from me, or the website.
YouTube Video
The Witchurch Group have produced a very professional 10 minute video and are trying to get as many views as possible to get it up the most viewed list and enhance its profile. Just watching the video and passing the link on will help. The link is:

HOLA demo and next meeting, 22 April.
Many thanks to those of you who turned up for our demonstration tonight on a rather chilly evening. Thanks to David for his printed posters and I am pleased to say we have our new plastic printed banner. We made our protest and were able to talk to some of those who visited the exhibition. There is a report and photo in the Evening Post here..
What to do next? There are quite a few things going on amongst the other groups and we should give them our support when we can. There will be planning applications being put in soon, probably the first will be the stadium, we need to get some research done in advance. Why was the previous application at Severnside turned down? We also need to continue to recruit members to build up the base of activists that we can call on for emails and responses to consultations. Big contributions to these really do matter. I know some of you pass on these emails, I will add anyone else who wants to be on the list. Then there is the press, we have now got some contacts and they will welcome more contributions.
Don’t forget the next meeting 22 April at 7:30. I will let you know the location.

Airport expansion under the spotlight
At last night’s full Council meeting of Bristol City Council the following motion, tabled by Bristol’s only Green Councillor Charlie Bolton, was debated.
This Council does not believe that expansion of Bristol International Airport is necessary for the economic success of Bristol, nor does it believe it is compatible with the target of 80% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions introduced by the Climate Change Act 2008…..

Short Exhibition at Jubilee Pavilion
Baker Associates are displaying their proposals for building 9000 houses in Ashton Vale in the Jubilee Pavilion on Monday 6th April, (16:00 to 18:00). This is a good opportunity to have a demo, display the HOLA banners and gain a bit of publicity. We have a contact with the Evening Post, which would be a good follow up to the articles in the Evening Post and Western Daily Press last week. I think we should be able to get coverage by the Evening Post. They wanted a photo with the previous articles so this would be an opportunity. I think Dundry and Ashton Vale might give us some support as well.
Please come along and show your support even if only for a short time.
