Update
Bristol screening of ‘Age Of Stupid’ this Friday
At the Thunderbolt in Totterdown. This Friday is the international premiere day, and I think all the venues showing it will be hooked up by satellite or internet to speeches and stuff from around the world, such as the president of the Maldives (who pledged to become carbon neutral), a Greenpeace boat in the Antarctic, and other groovy things.
More information can be found here.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the film yet its very worthwhile and to lighten the load their will be a DJ and band following the film.
Transition Movie
The premiere of an hour long documentary about Transition made from the inside, is on Saturday at 1.45pm GMT (or should that be BST?). The director was filming the training weekend that Margaret, Tilly and I went on last October, so we may be in it. It’s being shown at the Transition conference in London, and streamed live on the web, here. There is nothing on this link at the moment, but this is where it will be.

my Transition song on Youtube
Some of you heard Wendy Hessey and I sing a couple of songs I wrote about Transition and stopping climate change, at our christmas meeting last December. I finally finished recording them, and have botched together a simple video of the ‘Dig dig dig’ song, and put it on Youtube, where you can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsS5jkRyG9U.
Transition café – Saturday 6 June, in the club room, 10-1.
Locally sourced soup and foraged salad, lots of other things (more details closer to the time) to see, do ,talk about, watch……
It’ll also be very close to our first birthday – perhaps we should have a cake?
HOLA picnic, Sunday 7 June, 3pm
Come along with the family and enjoy the scenery on some of the land threatened with development by the 10,000 new houses the government want built locally.
HOLA is also launching a petition to stop Hazel ‘I’m giving back £13,000’ Blears from signing the Regional Spatial Strategy into law, which is the document stipulating the number of houses and roughly where they should go.
The picnic will be in the ‘toboganning field’ just up Monarch’s Way , which is the footpath crossing the railway bridge between Paulman Gardens and Perry Road (between Birdwell Estate and the Research Station estate). Meet outside Chestnuts Dentist, opposite Little Tipple, at 2.30 if you don’t know how to get there.
All the best

Brief from meeting on 22 May
I was very pleased to see many new members at the meeting and to have such a positive reaction from them to doing things.
Note that all documents referred to are available from our downloads page.
Green Belt Alliance
The green belt alliance is meeting tomorrow to discuss a publicity campaign which will precede the planned signing of the RSS by Hazel (I’m giving back £13000) Blears, which is widely predicted to be the end of June. The aim is to delay the approval. The date chosen is June the 6th, D day or Democracy day. I will let you have the details soon.
Picnic
This ties in well with the date for the publicity campaign, so will be our event. Lets be numerous, as we are hoping for media coverage. Details are on the website, Sunday 7th June, around 3 pm, in the so called toboggan field, accessed along Monarch’s Way. If you need guidance, meet outside the Chestnuts by 2:45 pm. Bring what ever you need and hope for good weather!
Petition
We also decided to set up a petition to Hazel Blears to reinforce the publicity campaign. This will be distributed around the village, but if you can get even a few signatures from your neighbours, please use the attached form and the accompanying information sheet. Please return completed petitions, however few signatures there are, to me at 65 Providence Lane, by 12 June. I will send it on to Hazel Blears.
New Leaflet
We have a new leaflet, with a very nice map to go with the petition, which will be on the website. (I have not attached it as I know not everyone has broadband). Could you please print out some copies and distribute around your neighbourhood. It prints well in black and white
Bath and West Show
Save Our Green Spaces is putting together a stand over four days at the Bath and West show. This will be shared by four of the local groups including ourselves. Many thanks to those who volunteered to man the stand and for the generous donations at the meeting which will assist with the funding. We hope this will give some high profile publicity.
Next meeting, 16th June, 7:30, venue to be decided

HOLA! picnic
Hands Off Long Ashton invites you to join together to celebrate the village as it is, and resist over development of the green belt. Bring along food, family, friends, games, instruments, and whatever else you need to have a good time! The picnic will be in a sloping meadow facing the village, across the railway bridge by Paulman Gardens and Perry Road – follow our direction signs by the railway bridge. This is the land under threat of development
There is only 200 yards of unpaved footpath to get to the field.

What’s Happening?
Save our Countryside meeting, Cheltenham 24th April. Notes from the meeting on the HOLA website, some interesting views from local opposition MPs and prospective candidates on the greenbelt and planning.
Things to Do
CPRE are carrying out a survey of views on the green belt, please respond to support appropriate use and maintenance of the greenbelt. This can be accessed via here or through the CPRE website, or download the form from our website. Use the Bristol “public” form not the London one, which appears at the top of the list.
My letter to the Bristol Evening Post regarding the football stadium, was published on the BEP website www.thisisbristol.co.uk, letters, (2 May) and in the paper on 4th May, with three views supporting the stadium. We need some counter views, both on the website and in the paper.
There was also a report in the Clevedon Mercury by Richard Bache on the University Land, last Thursday 30th April. This is on the Clevedon Mercury website www.thisissomerset.co,uk, again some comment is needed.
As I informed you previously the application is on the North Somerset planning website (09/P/0620/EIA, just put EIA in the application number search box) and has attracted a number of comments, all against. Thank you to those of you who have so contributed. If you have not done so yet, please add your comments and call for an EIA, environmental impact assessment.
